Hello everybody, just joined forum for help and support after being in two minds about trashing Vista Home Basic from my Acer 5051 laptop. Having spent 4 months suffering I have decided to keep it and wait for SP1. I hope I then can play my .mpg video files as well as my old windows 98 machine does over my network.

welcome aboard, this seems to be a huge problem with many vista users, if you have windowsmediaplayer 11 try this codec update and let us know how you get on FileForum | Vista Codec Package
