DVD R/W stopped being recognised by the PC

Hello one and all! I am a new member (Over 75) and very keen on computers,I just bought a New PC ASUS motherboard dual core and Vista Business OS, My DVD r/w
worked well a few days ago it stopped being recognised by the PC ,The cradle will work, but will not read or write,
The unit is a "lite-on"Multi recorder LH-20A1P ATA,
Can any one have a clue of to wake it up,
will be grateful for advice , Regards Ted

75 is young in PC age......

I once helped an 85 year old bishop who wanted to get a PC so he could send his neice an email. It all started off by his neice giving him a slip of paper with her email address. 6 years later he is tapping away fervently....

Can you post the errors you are getting in the Event Viewer.. see Windows Vista Event Viewer
