Hello fellow vistaheads
Hello to you all. I am 56 years old and been tinkering with computers since 1992. If I could I would be on my computer/s 24/7, but the body clock does not allow me to do so.
PROBLEM AND FIX
Purchased a HP laptop with Vista Home Premium O/S 8 moths ago. Everything worked great until, I accidently downloaded an update (optional) driver (conexant HD driver) a few days ago. Crashed my sound and also gave me an error message 800700ff. Plenty of searching then followed which really didn't give a fix. Microsoft Help nothing there. Problem: Microsoft Isatap Adapter # 2 missing or corrupt etc.
Eventually found Use the Windows Environment to Repair Windows Vista. (Related to Recovery & Repair.) After reading fulkl article, I decided to follow the registry edit segment. Typed in find box Conexant and deleted every entry I could find. Some would not delete however. Left them then downloaded AC97 Drivers(Sound), Installed no result. Rebooted with restart, then turned off. When I started laptop again it found hardware and asked to install software, did so from files on computer. Re-installed correct conexant driver and I had sound back. May be worth a try for others.
