im posting from another pc that is working, the one with the problem is
windows vista basic
service pack 2 (was 1 before the browser stopped working)
was using iexplorer 8 but i downgraded it to 7 (still no fix)
the pc is a Compaq Presario CQ60
things i was doing before it stopped working was trying to update my avg but it wasnt letting me cause i had turned automatic updates to off ages ago, so it made me go to "run > services.msc" and tamper with automatic live updates settings which seems all fair, so i decided to apply some window updates since i havent done so in awhile and since then the browser doesent work.
msn,ventrilo,updates,online games,all work but the iexploer does not.
opening an explorer page gives me the message "internet explorer cannot display the webpage" the diagnose connection problem says there is nothing wrong on network settings or some sort it says im connected to the router and the internet.
i have even did the "reset internet explorer settings" in the internet options advanced tab.
have run avg and antispyware nothing found.
oh while i was runnning the avg updater it said i needed some proxy i made that up cause i dont know what one is lol maybe that could be a prob?
i was told by a friendly help to check the hosts file and while doing that i got the message "cannot find the C:\users\(myuser)\AppData\Local\Temp\0.txt file." do you want to create a new file?"
maybe that could be something to consider aswell?
i cannot think of any more info i can give right now, but any help is appreciated and if any more info is needed just ask
