I got exactly the same ****ing situation.
I just being "supported by the " Microsoft support center, which remotely delated and reinstalled some drivers.
Results, Chrome, Firefox are no more browsing in the Internet (+ other problems and NOT the solution for the problem I request, incredible. Which is randomly rebooting system with a blue screen!)
How did you do? found a solution?

When I try to access the internet from other applications(Firefox, AIM, and/or WoW updater) they will not connect. It's strange because some apps can acces the internet such as IE 8, my spyware defense, and Windows Update.
I've tried changing my firewall settings, and even turning it off. I've gone through Firefox/IE and changed the settings to automatically detect settings but that doesn't work either. I've been reading the forums and seeing that some users are having issues connecting after updating to Service Pack 2, I have the same issue and I have to roll my computer back.
I run my spyware apps and every now and then I'll find some trojans, or something called a backdoor.trojan. I clear these out.
So, does anyone have any suggestions/ideas on what I should try or a possible fix to my issue?
I'm running Vista Home Premium 32 bit w/Service Pack 1.
