graphics and pictures are appearing as red or pink blocks

Originally these all worked, but one day they just stopped appearing, not sure why, but it has become a real problem now. Some pictures show up others do not, seems to have happen on gif's and jpg's, and yet it shows others, it has even happened on an adobe flash player page as well. Again some things work others don't even on the same internet page. Happens a lot within certain pages on facebook, but also on hotmail, dell technical support website and as i am writing this the 'remove text formatting' and 'insert mail link' boxes are pink but the rest show up fine.

I have tried restoring internet options to default and security settings. The old pc running windows XP seems to work fine, so am assuming it is something to do with Windows Vista, but really not sure.

Found something online, which said they had a similar problem but showing red x's, possibly linked to quicktime, I have installed quicktime but can't be sure the problem started then, cetainly worked when i had the computer.

Computer is a dell dimension E520, running windows vista home premium, have just installed service pack 2 and it is still happening.

Any thougthts or ideas would be much appreciated and happy to provide more details if it might help.
