Explorer 7 (I think?)

I got high speed installed today and everything was working fine for a few hours, but the first time that explorer was exited, it started to fail.
Everytime I tried to navigate to another page, it would send an error message that showed the url could not be retrieved.
I am positive that there is a connection between the computer and the internet because there is a response from the command panel of the computer. I tried calling Microsoft and they offered to help for $60, which I can't pay because it isn't my computer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and this is a problem with an XP, not Vista.
