To my great inconvenience a few days ago, I was trying to see files on computers in my "Network" folder, where I received a warning that my file sharing and network discovery were off.
I tried to turn them on from
Network and Sharing center, and this is what I received from an error message: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."
Now my Windows Firewall won't turn on either, due to "Unknown Errors" as it said and neither will ICS (internet connection sharing) saying an error occcured while turning it on.
Now, when I tried to turn "
Windows Firewall and Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" from services.msi I received the following error: The service started and then stopped...[continues on with the reason most services would stop] but that wasn't the reason this one did.
Other things I've tried:
1. System Restore (didn't work)
2. Followed a procedure on reinstalling the service at Microsoft.com (didn't work)
3. Currently looking for LAN file sharing software [Basically like Direct Connect (DC++), but can only be used for Local networks] (haven't found any)
Any Ideas??? I am going nuts here, for every file, I have to go around with a CD/USB drive to copy it from one PC to the Other.
