dskchk
I have been receiving a DOS screen when I log in which urges me to undertake a disk check as a matter of high priority. I have run the diskcheck several times but it keeps stalling at about 8% of the first of three parts of the check. It is attempting to delete a file that is corrupted, but the deletion appears to be failing. Since I have been receiving this message I have experienced all manner of strange activities like screen freezes, all programmes shuttingdown, leavingme iwth nothing but the wallpaper, a bluescreen of death, and a totally black screen. All files are saved to an external drive (I can not run a backup as this corruption apparently prevents this also), but am worried one day I will try to log on and the thing will self-destruct . Any ideas where I can find a third party disk checker suitable for Vista?
Thanks in anticipation.
