Compaq Presario DOA

Left the house to go get the car filled up. Turned off monitor but left computer turned on...it is on high-speed internet. Came home and tower is dead. No power. Tried resetting the surge suppressor, did a reset on the modem, blew the dumb thing out with canned air, running out of ideas real fast. It is a Compaq Presario SR5703WM with Vista Home Basic. It was fine when we left and dead when we got home. Hubby wants to know if there is a fuse? Had a rainstorm go by earlier but it didn't seem to be very disruptive and our other equipment is ok. I am using the HP laptop to write this. Any ideas what to try? So much stuff on that.

Sounds like the power supply most likely. Be sure to test the wall plug to make sure it's plugged in good (you might be surprised at how often that is the problem for computers and appliances). No known Compaq PC has a power fuse. When the power supply goes out it's cheaper to buy a new one than to repair it. If the motherboard is fried and the PC isn't worth repairing you can install the hard drive into an external USB hard drive enclosure and probably be able to copy the files onto another computer.

Lightening has been my biggest income for over twenty years (I service electronics). In my house we unplug all electronics when a storm rolls in.
