Motion eye (sony communication camera) not working after vista service pack 2

I've done just about everything i can think of (albeit not much of a tech head) and i just want my cam to work. the device manager sees i have a camera, and when i rebot with no drivers installed, it automatically installs drivers. so the camera is still internally connected, and recognized as a device.
whenever i attempt to run a program that would use the webcam, i either get a black screen, or i get "your webcam is in use by another device".

steps i have taken so far:
uninstall and reinstall standard system drivers.
diagonostic reboot, enabled camera, reinstalled standard issue usb camera driver, nothing.

downloaded cam diagonostic, and it says everything is working, except.....
I get every step except the last, where it is unable to start video capture. the camdiag.exe program tells me when i hover over that particular problem that

"No such interface supported [0x80004002]
I am running windows home vista premium 32 bit, any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated, as i cannot find any drivers on the sony vaio site.
