"Unable to open device" Kodak scanner i1120
Hi
I have been trying to sort this out since I purchased my new Dell XPS running on 64 bit Vista Ultimate. My Kodak scanner i1120 works fine on my old XP machine but will not work on Vista. Have contacted Kodak and they have been very good in responding, promptly sending a disk with latest software/drivers. That cured an installation error for the "Smart Touch" software and the install went fine, including drivers.
The pc recognises the scanner is there, but when starting to scan comes up with an information message "Open TWAIN data source failed". The message then gives a few hints to fix the problem which do not work or are not applicable (eg check cable is connected, power down, re boot...). You can also run an associated Kodak program " Scan validation tool". On selecting "TWAIN" in "Driver Types" box, "Kodak Scanner:i1120" appears in the drviers box (as it should). Click ok and a "Unable to open device" box appears with the same sort of hints to rectify as before.
Somewhat disconcerting is to see the i1120 scanner as being listed in Microsofts Vista compatibility list as ok for 32 bit but unknown for 64 bit. Kodak advertise the scanner as being suitable for both 64 and 32 bit Vista.
I also ran the "Scan Validation Tool" in Vista safe mode, but same message came up...
Appreciate any help on this. Thanks
