reformatting

Hi, I just got a new laptop from someone, but it was never reformatted. It has all kinds of stuff on it, and I just want it back to factory settings. When I got it, they have just put the new service pack on it and everything started messing up, but it didn't have a disc, as it was already on the computer. So I'm wondering what exactly I have to do to get it back to how it was when it was first purchased. Thanks so much in advance!
