svchost processes prevents drive removal
I have a laptop and an external harddrive which I use for backups that I've scheduled with the built in backup wizard. However, after a backup, an svchost process locks System Volume Information\tracking.log and $Extend\$ObjId on the device. Any way of making these locks release or not occur in the first place without rebooting?

Don't have a solution, but think I'm having the same problem.. Using any external drives (desktop, portable USB powered, USB flash drive).. try to "safely remove" and system says unable to..

Says to stop any program or file using the device and try again, but nothing is using the device (that I can identify). When I pull up the Task Manager, no programs are actively running... so... Forced to do a "restart" on the laptop in order to remove the drive.

Appreciate anyone that can help.
