USB Issues Drivers required for P+P Devices and access denied
Hey everyone.
It seems that I have hit several issues with USB devices. I have read all around the net for solutions (to what seems to be a common problem) and have tried everything without success. Just one final attempt to solve this:
I have 2 USB External Hard Drives and a Bluetooth Dongle
The problems started when we had a few power cuts and the computer got shut down unexpectedly.
Now only one of my Ext.hard drives is working fine. When the computer restarts(or when you unplug and plug in) it displays the prompt "Windows needs to install drivers for your External Hard Drive" and a similar prompt for the Bluetooth (Unknown Device) So this is obviously the first issue seeing as they shouldn't need new drivers. But you can either let the system find them or locate them yourself... Then it will search for a while and display "windows encountered a problem ... Access is Denied" The device appears in the device manager under other with error 28 drivers not installed.
I have tried deleting INFCACHE.1, setting permissions on the other files needed, yet REGMON still displays lots of ACCESS DENIED messages for the same 5 files.
I have tried plugging them in different ports out of chance and get the same issues.
Does anyone know how this is fixed? Very rarely I get stumped by something and am not able to find a solution on google!
Is there anyway to clear all USB history and start them fresh rather than a full reinstall of windows (as my disc is not working)
I believe there are 2 seperate issues here, firstly some corruption meaning that windows doesn't allocate the standard drivers automatically. And second being the access denied error.
I find it strange that one of the External HDs is fully functional, yet the other devices are not working.
If you would like any more info just ask and I will post it asap
