Harddisk from XP won't work with VISTA

Hello
My old computer with XP crashed. Then I got the glory idea to buy a new one with Vista. After setting up I mounted one of the harddisks of the XP in the Vista computer, and then Vista did not recognize the harddisk ("harddisk is not formated. Do you want to format it now?"). Now, anybody got an idea how to get the data from the old harddisks to the Vista computer?
