Connecting external monitor to Laptop
Hi I am new to the forum, I am from India, Pune in Maharastra state and I need help in connecting my laptop to external monitor.
I have Sony VGN FZ35GN laptop with Intel Centrino T8100 processor and Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT GPU with 128mb dedicated Ram.
I also Have a samsung HD Ready 19" LCD color TV which can be used as monitor and has VGA ,HDMI,S Video, Composite A/V input connections.
I can connect the Laptop to Lcd via SVideo cable and it works fine but the Image quality is so so, I bought VGA cable and and the Laptop and LCD do not comunicate, well while checking on the web regarding th VGA Cables pinout I came across a site pinouts.ru from where I have listed few pointers , local shop who sold me the cable has got no clue as to what this means and all he has is this cable which he says works with all monitors , does anybody know which connecting cable is needed for this combination, so I can specifically order one. I even got HDMI cable and this also has the same problem, This cable also seems to have different protocols, I would be happy if I can get one of them to work.
Thanks
pervez
NOTE: There are 3 different protocols defined for DDC:
DDC1 - A unidirectional (display to host only) serial comm system which provides basic display ID and feature support information (including supported timings, display size, colorimetry and gamma, etc.) to the host. This uses pin 12 on the 15-pin "VGA" connector as a data line.
DDC2B - Adds clock (pin 15) and return (pin 11) to enable at least ID information to be obtained via an I2C interface. I2C is a bidirectional interface, but display control via DDC2B is not defined at this time.
DDC2AB - Full ID and control of the monitor via ACCESS.bus. As ACCESS.bus is basically a command and protocol definition on top of the I2C hardware interface, this uses the same lines as DDC2B.
