cannot install hardware or new programs
hello guys, hopefully someone has experienced this before....
all of a sudden, i find i am unable to do the above- i am using vista 64.
i have plugged in a wireless router and i get the usual 'do you want to search for drivers' popup.
i click on yes and the box remains - but dulls itself down.
a small icon appears in the bottom right hand indicating that hardware is being installed, if i double click that i get the message that 'user input is being waited for'- or words to that effect.
and then , nothing happens.
perhaps coincidentally, if i double click on a program installation icon i get the hourglass and once again nothing.
if i then choose to shutdown windows i get a ( very ) quick popup message that says something like 'too many 16 bit drivers being used for explorer'- it's so quick that that's all i've been able to make out.
if i start in safe mode, everything seems to work - but thats not much of a solution.
