Webcam on new computer
I bought a new laptop of the weekend (HP 6780se) which has an installed webcam. The webcam doesn't appear on the Device Manager list and obviously doesn't work. 3+ hours with HP tech support resulted only in frustration. any ideas on how to tackle?

Mike

Although I don't have a laptop running Vista, I have this same problem with my Desktop. Through my research, it seems to be common problem, not only with laptops, but with desktops also.

Had hoped SP1 would have included a fix for this in one of the hidden fixes.

Has anyone found anything that works?

what i've figured out so far is that the webcam is affected by the installation of other drivers for other devices that cause conflicts with the webcam. the first one was the docking station I wanted to use...the driver for it made the webcam "disappear" as a device. When I removed it, it "reappeared". Then the driver for my multi-purpose printer (which has a scanner) made the webcam disappear. I uninstalled the printer driver, and when I reinstalled it, it remained this time (who knows what it will do today!). Seems to be compatibility issues with Vista...
