I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm also having problems with COD2 and rather than start a new thread, i thought i might be able to get an answer in here.
I just got a new computer (Dell Vostro 200, system specs posted at the bottom). I'm running Windows XP Home SP2, however, instead of Vista this time.
The problem I'm having is with DirectX. I just installed the latest DirectX10, and when i try to run the game, i get the "DirectX has encountered an unrecoverable error" message.
From what I've read, the problem isn't with my computer or with the game, but with DirectX 10. I tried to install DirectX9.0c again, but it says that I already have an up-to-date version, and cancels the installation.
Someone told me that the best thing to do would be to uninstall my graphics driver, restart, reinstall the driver and then reinstall DirectX9c. Does this sound right? I'm not the best with computers, and this one is brand new, so i'm weary of uninstalling drivers. Btw, this system has an Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family. If i uninstall this, can i still get onto the website after I restart and download the driver again?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I'm going crazy trying to get this game to run again!!
Sys specs from DxDiag:
Vostro200
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33GHz
Display: Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family
(NOTE: The dxdiag says that I have DirectX9c installed...?)
Thanks so much! Huge post, sorry.
