Just thought I'd point your attention to this:

I want a Freeware Utility to ... 450+ common problems solved : eConsultant

Not sure if it's been posted before but it's a brilliant compilation for freeware that has a free alternative to most software.

There is also an open source list here:

But if I'm being honest, that one isn't that good.
