I've gotten a bunch of updates from Microsoft, and what I'd like to do is uninstall them and replace them with service packs one and two. How do I do that and where can I get the service packs? Thanks much.

I used the backup and restore system to backup all the documents on my Toshiba laptop running Vista Home Basic. I backed up the documents to an external hard drive. Three days later, my laptop crashed and went into Restore mode, restoring my computer to "factory settings." Now I want to restore from that backup I made three days ago, but when I go to the Backup and Restore Center/Advanced Backups/ E:WBook, I get an error message saying Windows doesn't find any backup sets. When I got to the hard disk itself, there are the backup sets, labeled exactly as the Backup and Restore Center named them. There are several hundred zipped files in there. But no way to get at them. Help!

Issue 1: Skype will not connect
Issue 2: Firefox will not connect
Issue 3: Adaware will not connect
Note: have tried all these with the firewall from Norton Internet Security completely turned off
Issue 4: IE8 will only connect as long as we do not install any security updates. As soon as we install one (doesn't matter which one), IE does not connect to the internet
Issue 5: uninstalled IE8....IE7 no longer connects to the internet
Issue 6: re-installed IE8, now it will not open web page in new tabs or in new window (but that was working before the uninstall)

Have looked on the internet and tried just about everything, including the addons suggestion and the 3rd party software suggestions for the IE8 tabs issue. Afraid to upgrade to 7 cos I found someone who still has the tabs issue after the upgrade.

This is a good one. Suggestions would be appreciated and I am sure interesting. Please don't suggest something unless you really have a good idea as I am tired of going on route marches to solve these issues. I do not expect all this issues to be solved, one at least one would be nice. I've been searching around for about a week and can't solve even one.

Thanks and good luck.

Thankfully this is my secondary computer i speak of and not my gaming rig. For some reason, my secondary computer is only able to shutdown properly if I put it to sleep/hibernate first AND THEN click Shutdown. If I don't do this, VISTA shuts down, the screen loses signal, but the computer STAYS ON. I can only truely shut it down if I hold down the switch for a few seconds. The exact same thing happens when I tell it to restart! The computer just hangs there doing nothing.

For some reason, vista is able to restart proplerly whenever updates and drivers require the computer to restart. But clicking RESTART myself causes the computer to just hang.

Hi Gang, I'm new to this whole thing so bear with me as far as my explainations of my problems.

I guess my first issue is, I keep getting "ERROR CODE 1721" when I try to check for updates for all software that offers free updates including Windows.

Have paid big bucks to an online repair service that theoretically checked and removed viruses, worms and whatever else can happen with these darn machines... no luck!

Then I purchsed a program called RegCure at a cost of about $60.00.
It found over 350 errors and proceded to correct them as they claimed it would do. The results seemed to be now is that something called "Destinations.msi" is no longer available and it's asking me to install from a valid disk?????? Still getting "Error Code 1721" by the way.

What should I do, or what would you do, to start correcting these issues.

Thank You, Gary P
