Epson R340 Printer acting up

Just registered and second post. Have searched unsuccessfully for a fix to my problem.
My printer worked well for a few years until yesterday when whenever I tried to print something the results were eg.:

and on for several pages of similar but different characters which make no sense to me.

I've uninstalled the printer, reinstalled the correct printer Vista driver but no luck after reinstalling the printer.

I believe the appropriate driver are available from the HP web site for both
Win 7 32 and 64 bits.

HP 6200 disappears from Vista

HP has an application that delete the printer when it's not attached. I
forgot the application HP Que Discovery or something similar. Disable the
service if you do not wish to have HP delete the device.

Vista x64 TCP/IP Printing Issues

add the port using the vbs script prnport.vbs

\system32\printing_admin_scripts\en-us\prnport.vbs

cscript prnport.vbs -a -h 1.1.1.1 -r PORTNAME

If it does not auto configure the settings your device supports, supply the
settings to the command line (you would need to verify these from the
network card documentation)

use "printui /ip" from command line to launch the Network Add Printer wizard
and select the port from the list

The error you describe sounds like one of the core network binaries was
replaced. sfc /scannow should have fixed that.

Files and Printer Sharing

Hi:

I finally got the printer to work based upon my comments in other follow
on posting:

though my computer in question is a Toshiba L455-S5980 running Windows 7

named WORKGROUP by default, but I changed this name to MHOME where all 3
computers now have the same Workgroup name,

If anyone can assist me in establishing both file sharing of the Win 7
laptop and adding the sharing of printer I would be most appreciative.

Can't choose default printer

The usual cure is to disconnect the printer, uninstall the drivers, shutdown
and restart the computer.
Reinstall the correct up to date drivers, and when/if prompted, plug in the
printer.
Vista may have a basic driver built in for this printer, and it may not have
all the features.
Older, non Vista drivers may cause the problem you are experiencing, or
perhaps connecting the printer before the drivers were installed.
While an Epson R220 was a good printer in it's day, the newer workforce and
artisan printer series are quite a bit faster, and seem to have a bit better
color accuracy.
I've just about retired my R300m.

Here is what I have done to share printers between old and new Windows
operating systems, when one of them lacks drivers.

First, set up the printer where it is supported, on the Vista 64
computer. Next, on the same computer, click the add printer icon.
Select "DeskJet 600 (monochrome)" from the list of HP printers, and
select the SAME port as for the actual printer. Print a test page with
the DeskJet 600 printer alias. If that works, your OfficeJet 5610 uses
a later version of the same HP printer control language built into the
old DeskJet 600. Now set up the printer as shared. The other Windows
98 computer should be able to find the DeskJet 600 on the network and
print to it.

If your Vista 64 computer does not print a DeskJet 600 test page
successfully, you are out of luck trying to print directly from the
Windows 98 computer. On rare occasions, I have found HP printers and
all-in-ones that do not use HP printer control language, and hence they
do not work correctly with the lowest common denominator DeskJet 600.

A couple of weeks ago, I set up an even older OfficeJet on an XP
computer for a client using exactly the method outlined above, after
Best Buy told her (of course!) there was no way to use the printer with
Vista.

I have been away from Windows 98 for a pretty long time, so I do not
remember the exact steps to follow to find and set up a networked printer.

Last of all, the time is right to replace a computer with an 11-year-old
operating system and a browser with more security holes than you or I
can imagine. If you are in eastern Massachusetts, I have a selection of
reconditioned Pentium 4 computers with Windows XP Pro stickers, priced
right, from $100 on up... Ben Myers

Vista spooler keeps stopping

Thanks for your suggestion.

There were four printers configured. Three were configured to use local
printer drivers but the fourth one was configured to upload the printer
driver from our server. The uploaded driver is a different version from the
local printer driver though all of them drive the same physical printer. I
think that was the problem.

I deleted all the printers (the fourth printer was difficult to delete, more
about this later) and deleted all installed printer drivers and printers.
Added the three printers again - configured as local printers. The spooler
does not crash anymore.

When deleting the fourth printer, the spooler terminated. As a result, I
could not delete this printer. I restarted the PC, the driver for this
printer was uploaded from the server. This put me back to square one. I
fiddled around for a while including disconnecting network cable (the printer
is a network printer), restarting the PC (multiple times), deleting the wrong
driver (the spooler terminated); not sure the sequence of my actions, I
finallly managed to delete the wrong driver and the fourth printer. Could
you explain to me what is the right sequence to get rid of this "sticky"
situation?

Hi guys,

I have HP deskjet F2180 printer and vaio notebook running vista home premium. I had been using this printer for 2 years with no trouble, but recently I' ve moved stuff in my office and when I tried to connect printer to notebook again, It wouldn't do anything. I plug usb cable to the usb slot which I always used for it, and pc won't do anything. It won't show that usb is plugged, it won't install it, NOTHING. I've tried to reinstall it and when asked during installation to plug usb in I did, but nothing happend again. It's like pc is not reacting to it. So I tried other external softs to plug in and all of them working so there's no problem with my usb slots. I've tried to unplug printer from electric, restar it, install it, didn't work either. I need printer for my job and I am very frustrated now. What's wrong? Is it possible that my usb cable is broken? One day it worked and next day didn't. I recently got trouble with installing security for server 2005 SP3 not successful, might that be problem stopping pc from recognizing the printer? Please HELP.:confused::(
