Just registered and second post. Have searched unsuccessfully for a fix to my problem.
My printer worked well for a few years until yesterday when whenever I tried to print something the results were eg.:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W#C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

and on for several pages of similar but different characters which make no sense to me.

I've uninstalled the printer, reinstalled the correct printer Vista driver but no luck after reinstalling the printer.
 Gary

> I've been experiencing a very annoying problem with an HP 6200 series.
> The printer is connected via a USB HUB to my VISTA PC. Regularly I have
> to connect this printer direct to another PC, which cannot be networked
> with the VISTA PC. Now here's the weird part:
> Sometimes (most of the time) the printer will disappear from the Vista
> PC, but not always. When it does disappear, it re-installs when I
> re-connect it to the USB HUB.
>
> Via the VISTA PC, this printer is also shared in my private network to
> an XP PC. The annoying part is that by disappearing from the VISTA PC,
> also the shared printer disappears and I have to manually share the
> printer every time it re-installs.
>
> Question is quite simple, but I haven't been able to figure out a
> solution: How can I prevent this printer from disappearing from Vista
> when I disconnect it from the USB HUB?
If it does not auto configure the settings your device supports, supply the
settings to the command line (you would need to verify these from the
network card documentation)

use "printui /ip" from command line to launch the Network Add Printer wizard
and select the port from the list

The error you describe sounds like one of the core network binaries was
replaced. sfc /scannow should have fixed that.
> Greetings,
>
> I have been searching for some time for an answer for this issue but i
> have not yet been able to find a fix.
>
> PROBLEM: I cannot add a TCP/IP Printer attached to my network.
>
> System Information:
> Gateway 6860 Laptop
> Windows Vista Home Premium x64
> 1.83 GhZ Core Duo2
> 4 GB Ram
>
> THINGS I HAVE DONE:
>
> 1) Tried intalling via add new printer -> network printer -> Printer
> not listed -> Add TCP/IP Printer -> typed in printer ip ->
>
> I get the following:
>
> "Error Loading TCP MIB Library" - "Cannot Load Wizard pages for
> Standard TCP/IP Port"
>
> 2) Checked the REGISTRY ENTRY according to some of the other solutions
> that i have read and everthing is in place:
>
> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Print\Monitor\
>
> Add key
> Standard TCP/IP Port
> Add String Value; value name=Driver; value data=tcpmon.dll
>
> under Standard TCP/IP Port
> Add Key
> Ports
> Add three Dwords in Ports
> LprAckTimeout value data= 180
> StatusUpdateEnabled value data= 1
> StatusUpdateInterval value data= 10
>
> stop and start spooler
>
> 3)Checked on the files that are used for TCP/IP Ports and they are all
> there:
>
> \windows\system32
>
> tcpmon.dll
> tcpmib.dll
> tcpmonui.dll
>
> and i don't have any of the files that have been references in the
> %systemroot% folder that would cause conflicts:
>
> "This behavior may occur if a third-party version of the Wsnmp32.dll,
> Ntprint.dll, Tcpmib.dll, Mgmtapi.dll, or Snmpapi.dll file has been
> copied to the %SystemRoot% folder."
>
> 4) Installed the same network printer on three other machines in my
> office (Windows Vista Home Premium, MacOS X Leapord & Windows 7 Home)
> So i know that the printer is accessible, in fact i can connect to the
> printers UI via typing the ip address in my browser...
>
> 5) i have performed "in cmd" scannow sfc/ command and that didn't fix
> anything either as some other suggestions have implied.
>
> Im kind of lost for words on what to do next without re-intalling
> vista... any suggestions?
>
> -Thanks
Hi:

I know that I have addressed this posting to some Vista Newsgroups even
though my computer in question is a Toshiba L455-S5980 running Windows 7
Home Premium, but hopefully someone can help me or direct me otherwise.

I have a wireless network with a Linksys WRT160N router connected to a
Sony desktop running XP MCE(2005). In addition, I have another Toshiba
laptop running XP Home Edition.

With the new Win7 laptop in the Network I can see all 3 computers, as well
as access files in both the XP computers. However, I cannot access any of
the Win 7 files from the XP computers. I also have tried to share an HP
Officejet 6110 with the Win 7 laptop, but when I try to Add Printer, which I
can see the name of with the Wizard, I get an error notice that access is
denied.

The XP computers Workgroup name is MSHOME; however the Win 7 laptop was
named WORKGROUP by default, but I changed this name to MHOME where all 3
computers now have the same Workgroup name,

If anyone can assist me in establishing both file sharing of the Win 7
laptop and adding the sharing of printer I would be most appreciative.

Thanks,

The usual cure is to disconnect the printer, uninstall the drivers, shutdown
Reinstall the correct up to date drivers, and when/if prompted, plug in the
printer.
Vista may have a basic driver built in for this printer, and it may not have
all the features.
Older, non Vista drivers may cause the problem you are experiencing, or
perhaps connecting the printer before the drivers were installed.
While an Epson R220 was a good printer in it's day, the newer workforce and
artisan printer series are quite a bit faster, and seem to have a bit better
color accuracy.
I've just about retired my R300m.
> Hi,
>
> I can no longer choose a default printer, so while I can print from
> some programs (email programs), others say that I need to install a
> printer (Adobe Reader, Paint Shop Pro X2, etc.). I have an Epson Stylus
> Photo R220 installed. And it does print and prior to the computer
> getting "fixed", I did have the green checkmark on it as a default. I
> go into Regedit to check out permissions on the Hk-something, which I
> did, but all permissions seemed to be correctly checked.
> I know somebody whose father recently died and is closing down his
> late father's office. He has some extra computer equipment, and knows
> that I commented that I wanted an All-in-one printer. He's offering me
> an OfficeJet 5610. However, in order to make room for it, I'd have to
> get rid of my existing printer. That is an HP DeskJet 812C.
>
> I have two _functional_ windows computers in the computer room, one
> running Windows 98SE, the other running Windows Vista 64-bit Home
> Premium, with Windows XP Pro running under virtual pc from time to
> time.
>
> Is there any way to hook the OJ5610 up to either computer and share it
> so that both can use it? I'm sure that only the Vista computer would
> be able to send faxes or do scanning, but that's not important so long
> as I'm able to print from both computers with at least the same
> capabilities offered by the old OfficeJet 812C. I haven't tried, as I
> haven't taken possession of the printer, but I'd like to accept the
> offer. However, if it means I have to give up printing on my old
> computer, then I'm not sure I'm ready to accept.
>
> The problem I see is a lack of Windows 98 drivers. Will I be able to
> print to a Vista share? How would I set it up? Ideally I'd want to set
> up two printers, one set for Black and white only, the other color.
> Will I be able to do that with the new printer?
>
> I'd like to know the answers to these questions before I start moving
> equipment around rather than hook everything up, put the DeskJet 812C
> in storage, and then get a nasty surprise in being unable to print.

Here is what I have done to share printers between old and new Windows
operating systems, when one of them lacks drivers.

First, set up the printer where it is supported, on the Vista 64
computer. Next, on the same computer, click the add printer icon.
Select "DeskJet 600 (monochrome)" from the list of HP printers, and
select the SAME port as for the actual printer. Print a test page with
the DeskJet 600 printer alias. If that works, your OfficeJet 5610 uses
a later version of the same HP printer control language built into the
old DeskJet 600. Now set up the printer as shared. The other Windows
98 computer should be able to find the DeskJet 600 on the network and
print to it.

If your Vista 64 computer does not print a DeskJet 600 test page
successfully, you are out of luck trying to print directly from the
Windows 98 computer. On rare occasions, I have found HP printers and
all-in-ones that do not use HP printer control language, and hence they
do not work correctly with the lowest common denominator DeskJet 600.

A couple of weeks ago, I set up an even older OfficeJet on an XP
computer for a client using exactly the method outlined above, after
Best Buy told her (of course!) there was no way to use the printer with
Vista.

I have been away from Windows 98 for a pretty long time, so I do not
remember the exact steps to follow to find and set up a networked printer.

Last of all, the time is right to replace a computer with an 11-year-old
operating system and a browser with more security holes than you or I
can imagine. If you are in eastern Massachusetts, I have a selection of
reconditioned Pentium 4 computers with Windows XP Pro stickers, priced
right, from $100 on up... Ben Myers

Thanks for your suggestion.

There were four printers configured. Three were configured to use local
printer drivers but the fourth one was configured to upload the printer
driver from our server. The uploaded driver is a different version from the
local printer driver though all of them drive the same physical printer. I
think that was the problem.

I deleted all the printers (the fourth printer was difficult to delete, more
about this later) and deleted all installed printer drivers and printers.
Added the three printers again - configured as local printers. The spooler
does not crash anymore.

When deleting the fourth printer, the spooler terminated. As a result, I
could not delete this printer. I restarted the PC, the driver for this
printer was uploaded from the server. This put me back to square one. I
fiddled around for a while including disconnecting network cable (the printer
is a network printer), restarting the PC (multiple times), deleting the wrong
driver (the spooler terminated); not sure the sequence of my actions, I
finallly managed to delete the wrong driver and the fourth printer. Could
you explain to me what is the right sequence to get rid of this "sticky"
situation?

Thanks.
> Hi guys,
>
> I have HP deskjet F2180 printer and vaio notebook running vista home
> premium. I had been using this printer for 2 years with no trouble, but
> recently I' ve moved stuff in my office and when I tried to connect
> printer to notebook again, It wouldn't do anything. I plug usb cable to
> the usb slot which I always used for it, and pc won't do anything. It
> won't show that usb is plugged, it won't install it, NOTHING. I've tried
> to reinstall it and when asked during installation to plug usb in I did,
> but nothing happend again. It's like pc is not reacting to it. So I
> tried other external softs to plug in and all of them working so there's
> no problem with my usb slots. I've tried to unplug printer from
> electric, restar it, install it, didn't work either. I need printer for
> my job and I am very frustrated now. What's wrong? Is it possible that
> my usb cable is broken? One day it worked and next day didn't. I
> recently got trouble with installing security for server 2005 SP3 not
> successful, might that be problem stopping pc from recognizing the
> printer? Please HELP.:confused::(
> Ok, I downloaded the Full software for my Officejet 7310 from HP. They
> do not have a driver only package. The full software installed just
> fine on my computer. My problem is when I select share this printer, it
> shows that the x64 drivers are installed and what I need to do is
> install the x86 drivers. This is because some of the computers on the
> network are x64 and x86. Can someone help me find the files needed to
> install the x86 drivers?

Look for the "Corporate" drivers.
> Hi All
>
> I have some experience with computers to get me by when installing, but
> this issue is troubling me.
>
> Just purchased a brand new ASUS laptop with Vista. I am installing a HP
> LaserJet 5MP to this machine. I have purchased a parallel to USB cable
> and when i first setup the printer on the new laptop, i was able to
> print a test page.
>
> After 3-4 days, the printer has stopped working. I am not getting an
> error message, just an error in the print que. I am not able to print
> anything (not even a test page from vista).
>
> The printer port is USB Virtual Printer Port. The Printer driver is
> only available via vista and can not be downloaded via the HP website.
>
> Any help is more than welcome
>
