Vista Basic spa.
I have a dvd/cd rw.
Although software did come with the drive I don't have it installed at this
time
because I'm not sure if it has the features I require.
The more I look to the internet to try to find out what software I need the
worse my
headache gets.
I'll list the things I want to accomplish and hopefully someone here can
point me in the right direction.

I'm not sure of some of the terminology either but I'll attempt to explain
the best I can

1) I want to be able play regular DVDs on my commuter.
2) While playing the dvd I want to be able to pause and clip the still and
save it as a jpg.
3) I want to be able to rip a portion of the DVD and save it to a video file
(mpeg, avi...)
4) Then I'd like to be able to rip 5 to 20 seconds of AUDIO of the ripped
video (or from the original DVD if that's possible) and save it as a wav
file.
5) Create DVDs playable on my DVD player from several video file formats
like one can do with Windows DVD Maker but isn't included in Vista Basic.

I would prefer a suite with all these feature if possible.

Any help will be appreciated,
James

Have you ever...

How to convert MP4 to VOB with Leawo MP4 to VOB Video Converter?

Have you ever planned to make a DVD of your MP4 movies so that you can play them on your DVD player? Then maybe you have been frustrated by the DVD burning software which doesn?t grant MP4 videos for import. Now you can clear such problems off your path, for there is a wonderful MP4 to VOB converter for you. This guide will show you how to convert MP4 to VOB videos with Leawo MP4 to VOB Converter and take advantages of the program's features.

Leawo MP4 to VOB Video Converter is a nicely-designed program, safe and clean, and does not include virus, malwares or the like, so feel free to download it for free evaluation.

Leawo MP4 to VOB Video Converter can help you through the conversion in only three steps:
Step 1, launch the program and load the MP4 video files.

Tips:
> You can directly take the files in through drag action.
> You can rearrange the file order by the buttons or the drag action.
> You can get a preview of the videos by double clicking on the file title.
> You can capture a photo during the preview.

Step 2, apply a proper profile and change the settings.
Leawo MP4 to VOB Video Converter has nicely provided optimized VOB output profiles for playback on DVD player or Super Video CD player.

Tips:
> You can select different profiles for each file on the list, or you can apply one to all via the button next to the profile box.

Profile Quality and Audio Quality are two essential settings on output quality. Simply raise them both to high level and get the best output quality. There are extensive codec settings behind the scene. Access them via Settings button.

Tips:
> One of the frequent reasons for incompatibility on playback on DVD player is the video standard. To settle this problem, you should set it right to your regional standard.

Step 3, customize the video to get it enhanced or pruned.
Select a file on the list of Leawo MP4 to VOB Video Converter and click open the Customization panel. A real-time preview box will assist you all along while you are making adjustments.

The Effect is mainly to change visual effects like brightness and contrast and the audio volume.

The Trim is to prune the video in length or cut a segment with a precision of millisecond.
The Crop is able to remove the black margins or any unwanted parts of your video.
The Logo Watermark feature allows for applying an image above the video layer.
The Text Watermark feature allows for applying a string of text on the video surface.

That's it. You can now start the MP4 to VOB video conversion process in full confidence. Just one click on the big Start button. Easy and fast.

Tips upon conversion process:
> You can set more threads to run concurrently.

Here you can download this Leawo Video Converter freely here.
This happened about a year ago but my partner fixed it and he doesn't
remember how, but it's been working fine for the last year!

It isn't confined to specific folders, I have read on several posts
where this has happened to people in a specific folder and has been down
to a rougue URL, but I don't see how this can be the case in this
instance.

I really hope someone can help!

>> Thanks, Leroy, but you've fallen into the same trap as I did. There are
>> two such download sites. My concern is to find the one that contains the
>> genuine "Windows Live Mail" download. The other site contains the
>> Hotmail download which it refers to also as "Windows Live Mail" (their
>
> Most video, simple video editing and audio recoding are multi-threaded
> programs right now, (look under options or look at support for your
> programs to find out if they support this) I've found video editing of
> HD content considerably better when used in conjunction with a cpu
> boasting more cores, and the benchmarks reflect this also.
>
> Phenom's are considered the better processor in this class. The L3
> cache will play a small part in boosting speeds this is because L3 cache
> (normally bigger than L2 or L1) shortens the time to run highly accessed
> programs, this would benefit you especially in audio and video editing
> using deinterlacing and other key features. But ultimately I would
> suggest a Phenom II x4 as it is a newer architecture offering faster
> speeds.
> This being said, you should see an increase in performance because you
> were talking about upgrading your "old" CPU with one of these new ones.
> If you are into video and picture editing look for programs that
> support the use of your GPU (assuming you have a graphics card) this
> will speed up your editing results considerably, multifaceted with a new
> CPU and you cant go wrong. Just make sure your RAM is up to the task of
> video, audio and picture editing (anything less than 2GB is a crime -
> 4GB recommended, 8GB will breathe new life into your machine {provided
> its 64-bit}) Hope I gave you some more thoughts, AMD CPU prices are
> getting cheaper keep your eye out for a bargain mate.
>
>
> --
> d3aths3rver

I think I'll get a Phenom II x3 720 since the Athlon II x4s, and the newer
Phenom II x4s, require a BIOS upgrade to use the more recent AMD processor
releases and, of course, I can't do a BIOS upgrade without a supported
processor on the mobo. I checked the supported processor list before I
bought the AM 2+ mobo and the Athlon II x4s Phenom II x4s were listed as
being supported but it certainly wasn't obvious that a BIOS upgrade was
needed.

I'm going to go with Vista 64 for the time being, since I have a NFR copy of
Vista 64 Ultimate and 4GB DDR2, at least, until I have everything working.
The mobo has onboard ATI HD3200 graphics which is supposed to be a decent
chip, but I'm not sure how much memory I can dedicate for video . If it
proves to be inadequate, I'll get an add-on video card.
