Network and sharing centre will run but when I open it and turn Network Discovery on and press apply the page will freeze and won't respond. I read abit about these problems and found it was fixed by starting SSDP discovery. When I go into services and press start on SSDP it comes up with:

"The SSDP Discovery service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by oher service programs"

Any help on how to turn it on would be sweet :).

Hello,

My problem is that whenever I turn my laptop on, it is unable to connect to my wireless network. When I try and look in Network and Sharing Centre, it takes almost 10 minutes for it to load (it's as if that process has frozen, but in task manager it says it's running)

When it does finally load and I can see the network, it will show I am connected with limited access. This is the only network it is able to find. I've tried to disconnect from it and then reconnect, but when I disconnect..it is unable find any network at all.

The strange thing is, all I have to do is restart my computer and everything is fine - it connects straight away without any issues, and I can see other networks in the area.

You know what else is weird? this problem only seems to occur in the autumn/winter. I was having this same issue last year during those seasons, but in the spring/summer it's completely fine and connects on first boot. What the heck! is this relevant?

I guess it's not a big deal having to start my comp twice, but it would be nice to not have to. :[ It just drives me crazy that I don't understand why this happens.

Hi,

I am running Vista Home Premium using a Belkin router. The laptop is new and still under warranty but I'm having no luck with Gateway support. I can connect to the internet via my wireless connection but not through wired. Therefore I cannot make changes to my router. My network and sharing center says Identifying network and then comes up with local only. It can't access the internet via the router or directly through the cable modem. I know it's not the modem as I have great access wirelessly and like I said direct through the modem doesn't work either. I have tried updating the driver for my Ethernet adapter. That was Gateway's great help. That didn't work. It worked fine one day and then just quit.

Everything I have found on the net appears to be more the reverse with the wireless not working but the wired ok I thought maybe it was a hardware malfunction but I don't see any reason for it to just quit working so abruptlly for no reason. Any suggestions on what I can try? Please don't get overly technical in your jargon. I'm pretty good at fixing computer issues working my way through instructions but don't really have technical knowledge. Thanks!
