the following Microsoft's "Help" steps, my screen looks nothing like
what was suggested!

"To change the default search provider

Open Internet Explorer.
Click the arrow to the right of the search box.

Click Manage Search Providers.
Click the search provider you would like to set as the default, click
Set as default, and then click Close."

I have NO "arrow to the right of the search box" - all I see is the
search box followed by "Bing". I want to use Google.

Suggestions, please!

Hi Forest,

Check your compatibility settings and that you are including updated web
site information from Microsoft.

Most problems are being caused by incompatible Addons?

Have you checked for updates to any of your Addons? Including Flash and
Quicktime?

The error message suggests either Quicktime or an old version of the Google
toolbar is the cause.

Regards.
> I was going to ask a question about connection problems with IE8 but it
> seems
> a lot of other people have beaten me to it. Unlike most people, I am on
> dialup so I thought it was having issues because of that although I did
> not
> have the same problems with IE7. Now I see that connection type has
> nothing
> to do with it. Like everyone else, I am experiencing intermitent problems.
> Often reloading the page solves the problem. The diagnostics produces no
> helpful results. And so on.
> I have read the helpful advice being offered but I have a problem with
> that.
> Seems it is up to us to make all sorts of changes to our computers in
> order
> to get IE8 to work. I am always leery about making some of those changes.
> I
> must confess that I am not that knowledgeable about the inner workings of
> this beast and am always concerned that I make the changes incorrectly and
> really screw up my system. It doesn't help when there are dire warnings
> attached to some of the instructions for making those changes! :)
> I trust that Microsoft is working on a much simpler solution to the
> problem
> since it does seem to be very prevalent. Can they not simply write a fix
> and
> include it with their windows updates and save everyone a lot of hassles
> in
> trying to fix the problem themselves?
> Sorry if I sound like I'm grousing but it is just all too typical that a
> new
> program comes out from MS and it's got issues. Surely they should be able
> to
> test run new programs better than this by now.

Can not right click and "Open in new window"
Can not right click and "open in new tab"
Links that open in a new tab just sit there saying "Connecting"
Links that open in a new window do nothing. (Like new question window in here)

I have reset all defaults in internet, Intranet, and Trusted Zones.
I have cleared all temp and cache files
I have reset advanced settings
I have uninstalled and reinstalled IE8
I have regsvr32 some specific dll files as suggested in other MS forums
NOTHING WORKS TO FIX THIS.

Technet doesn't have any answers but searching the web does find this error
reported frequently. None with any solutions

IE32 bit did work initially. With so many updates I can't pinpoint when it
stopped doing so.

I have spent too much time personalizing everything and adding programs to
restart with a clean install. All mainstream like Quickbooks 2010 etc. Not
sure that some would even let me reregister if I did a clean reinstall of
Win7..

As a side note, IE8 running in XP Mode virtual machine also runs perfect.
I view certain web pages (including the "new tab page"!!!) I don't

The error is : Sysfader : iexplore.exe Application Error The
memory could not be "read"
I've scanned for viruses and malware and have found nothing.
Can anyone suggest what else I can try to resolve this problem?
IE 7 file download size limits
02-mar-07

I'm hosting a website that contains .ISO images. Some of them are above 4GB
and I cannot download those in IE7. I get an error message similar to HTTP
400. They all doanload fine in IE6.

Is there a limit in the file size that IE7 can download? How can you change
it?

> Have recently installed 7 on my main home PC. This PC is hardwired to the
> net. I run a Belkin N1 wireless router for 3 other PCs in the house. My
> Media Centre PC is hardwired to this router and runs XP - connects to the
> internet fine. My son's PC runs 7 and connects to the router wirelessly
> and
> runs fine. My wife's latop runs XP and connects to the router fine also.
>
> My problem is that the main PC, while connected thru hardwire, will not
> XP
> on this main PC will connect. 7 won't.

Currently using new HP laptop, IE 7 on XP Pro machine (wireless) and 1 year

Currently using new HP laptop, IE 7 on XP Pro machine (wireless) and 1 year
old Gateway desktop IE 8 on Vista Home premium (wireless), HP laptop IE 7 on
Vista Ultimate (wireless) and 5 year old Sony IE 6 on XP Home (wired)
machines. Only two of these machines are having issues on the various
networks I am using. All are fully updated and all are running the same
antivirus and firewall settings and versions. All machines have the same
security level settings and home page set.

The IE 7 XP Pro and the IE 8 Vista Home Premium are both "hanging" when I
type www.microsoft.com and hit the enter key. They may take as long as 2
minutes to enter MS's web site. If I hit the F5 (refresh) key they both
instantly go to the web site and open it anytime during the hang time. The
other machines go immediately to the site and open it without issues. I
have found that the XP Pro IE 7 machine even hangs when on a different
network wired through a Cat 5e cable.

These machines can be newly cold booted or running for a long time and the
issue still happens. I can have a lot of software running in the background
or nothing running. Full malware scans with Spybot... and Malwarebytes in
safe mode show nothing at all. Antivirus scans also show nothing at all.

The Gateway came originally with Vista and IE 7 but I upgraded to IE 8.
Have removed IE 8 and went back to IE 7 to see if the issue remained and it
did so I reinstalled IE 8.

This issue happens every time on both of these machines. All other web
sites come up in a normal manner, just MS's site. Does anyone have any
suggestions on the fix of this issue!

It could just be that you're using 64-bit IE8. If so, you should have two
icons or Programs (Start>All Programs> ... ) for IE, one of them will say
specifically that it's for 64-bit.

What you have run into is a technology thing where the technology has
outpaced the web developement. Some pages use Flash, which does not work
with 64-bit environments yet.
> My IE8 won't show some web pages correctly, even with the Compatibility
> view
> activated. Some pages I can't use to enter comments, or enter an ad to
> sell
> stuff.
> And what is more strange: In the window Add or remove programs the
> "Windows
> Internet Explorer 8" is presented as seldomly used; in fact, last time
> used
> says May 14, 2009, which is more than 6 months ago. I use it daily,
> basically!
> Has anyone any idea on this? Is there somewhere I can download an
> installation file for the IE8 to re-install it? (When I try via the web, I
> just get the remark that I already have it installed.)
