canon canoscan lide 100

I tried installing from disc for this device but an error occurred at the point of the installation proces where something was happening with the registry. Unclear what the error was. I downloaded the latest driver from the Canon website, same problem. The installation won't complete. I think there is some incompatibility between the driver and my registry. But I don't really know what this means as I'm not a tech guy. Does this make sense to anyone, and more importantly can anyone suggest a solution? Many thanks.
