Check your firewall settings, particularly if you use a 3rd party firewall. SP1 contains new versions of the Internet Explorer executable, iexplore.exe, and some firewalls are configured to pick up on the change and not allow communication unless they are explicitly given permission. The same thing can occur with the regular cumulative security updates for bothe IE7 and Windows Mail. This is actually a good thing, because it prevents rogue programs from altering these executables without you knowing about it. If you are notified by the firewall that these programs have changed, check for installed updates. If there haven't been any updates that have installed between the time that your system was last able to connect and now then it is possible that you have got malware on your system, and you need to run your anti-malware tools. You could also try System Restore.
