Here's how to check the registry for an entry for the AMD optimizer....
Note: You can use the steps below, up to step 5, to open a cmd window and
check to see if there are any shortcuts in any startup folders for the HP
optimizer. You'll have to navigate to the documents and settings folder and
drill down into each user's folder to check their startup folder entries.
This is actually more complicated than I'm willing to document in -this-
email. Try this registry thing first...
01. Boot from Vista DVD
02. When "Install Windows" dlg appears, accept defaults, click Next btn.
03. Click "Repair your computer" link.
04. In the "Systems Recovery Options" dlg box, click the Next btn.
05. Click the "Command Prompt" link. (This will open a cmd window...)
06. In the cmd window, type "regedit" and press the Enter key. (Regedit will
open.)
07. Select the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" (HKLM) folder.
08. Select "File | Load Hive" from the menu.
09. In the "Load Hive" dlg box, click on the "Computer" icon in the left
pane.
10. Dbl click on the System drive icon. (Usually C:, but could be
different...)
11. Navigate to the "windows\system32\config" folder.
12. Dbl click on the file named "software". (No extension, i.e., do not
click on software.sav)
13. In the "Load Hive" dlg box, in the "Key Name" text box, type "temp".
Click the OK btn.
14. Expand the HKLM folder. (Click on the plus sign next to the folder to
expand it...)
15. Expand the "Temp" folder.
16. Expand the "Microsoft" folder.
17. Navigate to (scroll down) and expand the "Windows" folder.
18. Expand the "CurrentVersion" folder.
19. Navigate to (scroll down) and SELECT (not expand) the "Run" folder.
20. In the right pane, look for an entry that you think might be the AMD
optimizer exe. (You might want to document the value name and value of
anything you delete, just in case... and document it -exactly-...)
21. If found, in the right pane, select the entry and press the Delete key.
22. In the "Confirm Value Delete" dlg box, click the "Yes" btn.
23. Navigate back to, and select, SOFTWARE\temp.
24. Choose "File | Unload hive" from the menu.
25. In the "Confirm Unload Hive" dlg box, click the "Yes" btn.
26. Close Regedit.
27. In the "System Recovery Options" dlg box, click the "Restart" btn. (you
can ignore the cmd window you opened to run regedit...) System will restart.
Good luck,
