WMP 11 Library
Why does WMP use the computer\share name when adding media from the network?

I have a mapped drive (M:\) that connects to a share on a desktop. On the
file system it looks like: 'M:\My Music\'. However, when adding the files
in the library it looks like: '\\XP\My Book(E)\My Music\'. I have an
external drive on the desktop (XP) which shows up as drive 'E'. The share
name is 'My Book(E)'. So, I understand where the values come from.

The problem is that I would rather add the music as 'M:\My Music'. The
biggest reason is the fact that I moved the external drive. My drive has
over 20,000 music files. I recently bought that Linksys Gigabit router that
allows you to connect the external drive directly to it and setup a share.
If the file paths had been stored properly I would not need to delete the
listings in my library and search for new media. Keep in mind, I have 5
other computers at home... three are laptops. They all have to go through
this.

If I go into WMP and select a monitor folder of '\\XP\Media', then map the
file in that way. If I enter 'M:\Media', then please respect my wishes and
create file paths using this value!

BTW, after making this change I noticed the performance of the Linksys
router was terrible. I have returned the router and have gone back to the
desktop share. And yes, I had to delete my library and start all over with
media searches. This is of course what prompted this request.

Respectfully,

Mike B.
