I did apply the update again, and there was no problem.

One theory is that the NTFS/Share permissions got messed up.

Hmmm, here's a thought.

My desktop is a multiboot system.
Several daze ago, I noticed that one of the OS could not see the Vista
system, tho the Vista system could see the desktop OS.

The problem was that that desktop OS was impure, i.e., it was an install of
Win 2000 OVER Win 98, and the workgroup name did not get updated.

So, I wonder if booting to that OS, and then using Vista to access those
files might have caused a screw up in NTFS/Share permissions.

Guess I'll have to test.
